Discipline - Bible Study - Clarifying the Bible - Part 3

Hopefully by now you're getting a more clear picture of the Bible. (Hopefully you actually started by reading the earlier posts in this Clarifying the Bible series of posts!! It might be confusing if you started mid-story).

Let's keep going with the clarification of the Bible.

Remember...

Bible study is important.

Make it a priority.

Be disciplined.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

We start in this post with one of the more complex of our 20 sentences that will help us better understand the Bible.

We're still in the Old Testament.

8. The major storyline of the Old Testament, while foreign to many, is not difficult to learn, as its 4,000+ year history can be understood by learning Max Anders’ nine eras of the Old Testament: Creation, Patriarchs, Exodus, Conquest, Judges, Kingdom, Exile, Return, and Silence.

A suggestion, start by learning these nine eras.

Repeat them over and over.

Creation, Patriarchs, Exodus, Conquest, Judges, Kingdom, Exile, Return, Silence.

Again.

That's the entire major storyline of the Old Testament in nine words.

Now look at the next charts (below).

In addition to these nine eras, Max Anders puts four sub-points under each of the areas. This is done to help you categorize what happens in each of the nine eras. It’s only 36 points and you’ll see how it fits together.

For example, under the Era CREATION there are the sub-points Creation, Fall, Flood, and Tower. These words represent four main things that happened in Geneses 1 – 11 (note the Bible references in the third row of the charts).

At first glance, this might look like a lot but it makes sense and it fits together.

When I went through Downline, there was a detailed explanation that accompanied these charts. I hope to summarize that explanation and add it to this blog post in the future. For now, my suggestion would be to keep this chart with you as you read the Old Testament.

For now...remember...

Bible study is important.

Make it a priority.

Be disciplined.

Note: In this series of posts, I am presenting material from Clarifying the Bible as I learned it in the Downline Institute, purposely giving credit to both Downline and Mitch Maher, the author of the study by the same name.
