At various times in my walk with the Lord I've written. Sometimes, I have written in a journal. By hand. Other times, I've "written" in an electronic journal on my computer. A couple of times I've started online blogs and have had varying degrees of success in regularly posting entries.
Maybe it's all just part of my journey.
And so the journey continues as I launch this new site.
I really like writing. Even if no one reads it.
I think getting my thoughts out on "paper" helps me process.
In getting ideas for my first post, I took a journey back in time to my first post on a previous blog. When I found it. I stayed there a while. Here are my thoughts as I journeyed there (the original entry is in purple)...
This blog is about Discipleship…(this new one will probably be about Discipleship also)
This blog is also about a journey…(the journey continues)
To be precise, “Taking Another Step” is about a journey in Discipleship. (being and making disciples is a lifelong journey for me)
Through this blog, I hope to share a little about my journey as a disciple of Jesus Christ. This journey…past, present, and future…includes learning about discipleship, being a disciple, discipling others, and my experiences as a Discipleship Minister at New Hope Christian Church in Bartlett, Tennessee. (and now I'll add my experiences as Executive Minister at New Hope...and also some about being a husband and a dad)
It has been said that part of being a disciple, and really part of any journey, involves taking another step. Not remaining where you are. Simply taking another step in your walk with the Lord. (I'd like to say that all of the steps are forward, but as in many things, so times it includes steps forward and steps backward. I hope to share all of those).
One of my favorite musical artists explains it very well. Rich Mullins, in his song Step by Step, shares these words in the chorus:
CHORUS: Oh God, You are my God And I will ever praise You Oh God, You are my God And I will ever praise You I will seek You in the morning And I will learn to walk in Your ways And step by step You’ll lead me And I will follow You all of my days
If you don't know the song, listen here.
I invite you to join me on the journey, step by step. (and the invitation is still there...join me as I continue this journey...)
